Manama, July.29 (BNA)–A three-year project will be launched early next year (2014) to ease up traffic ordeals on King Fahd Causeway.
Details of the development project were unveiled as Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa today received Saudi Customs General Director Saleh bin Munai Al-Kheliwi.
Finance Minister Shaikh Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa and Bahrain Customs President Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
Under the three-scheme, 60 lanes would allocated to ensure the smooth flow of private cars and accommodate the big flux of passengers on the strategic artery linking Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Extra lanes, bus gates, yards and shaded areas for customs inspection procedures would also be provided to accommodate more than 600 trucks, in addition to speeding paperwork to avert any delays or congestions.
The reclamation work is scheduled to start early next year (2014) as part of the three-year multi-phased development plan. Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa was updated on the procedures being undertaken to address the truck ordeals on King Fahd Causeway.
A land has already been allocated near the fee-payment gate on the Bahraini side to accommodate up to 200 trucks. The move was coordinated between the ministries of finance and interior as part of efforts to provide a parking space for loaded trucks away from residential areas.
Trucks loaded with merchandise will be allowed to cross King Fahd Causeway between 07 am and 02.00 am. Under a planned approved by the two parties, lorries carrying aluminum, iron and other national industrial products will allowed entry from 03.00 pm to 09. 00 pm.
Unloaded lorries will also be allowed to cross the causeway on both sides duing the period between 09.pm and 02.00 am The plan which was endorsed by the Bahraini and Saudi customs authorities will implemented within two weeks.
